Aims & Scope

‘Atiqot is an open access (see Copyright and Licensing), non-profit thematic journal dedicated to topics related to the archaeology of the Land of Israel. It is published by the Israel Antiquities Authority Israel Antiquities Authority three times a year, and as of 2026, online only (EISSN: 2948-040X). All content published in the journal is subject to double anonymous peer review (see Peer Review) and language editing (see Language Editing).

‘Atiqot publishes articles in the field of archaeology and related fields directly interacting with archaeological studies, covering a broad chronological time span, from prehistory to the Ottoman period, within a specific geographic area, the Land of Israel. The journal presents comprehensive synthesis studies on the region and its connections with its neighboring countries, as well as one to three peer-reviewed archaeological excavation reports that relate to the volume's topic.

Articles published in ‘Atiqot must comply with the chosen theme of a specific volume, which are posted on the journal website 18 months prior to the due date of a volume (see Call for Papers).
