Abstract
Five strata were exposed at the site, located to the north of the Yoqne‘am–Fureidis road (Road 70): Strata I–III date to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods, and Strata IV–V are of an earlier, unknown date. The numismatic evidence comprisestwo coins from the third century, six coins from the fourth century and twenty-seven from the Byzantine period. None of the coins postdates the seventh century CE. Unfortunately, the dating of the ceramic finds, based on the typology of the finds from nearby Caesarea, does not correspond to the dates of the coins. This might suggest that pottery types traditionally assigned to the seventh century CE were actually introduced earlier, during the sixth century CE.
