Abstract
Excavations at Legio recovereddozens of roof tiles and bricks, consisting mainly of flat roof tiles (tegulae),but also ridge tiles (imbrices), bricksand floor tiles.Eight of the roof tiles andtwo of the bricks are impressed with Romanlegionarystamps, attestingto a Roman military presence at the site: Legio VI Ferrata and Legio II Traiana.Petrographic analysisof the fragments containing legionary stampsshows that they were produced from localraw materials, thusconfirming the existence of a pottery workshopnear the legion’s permanent garrison at Legio.
