Abstract

In 1975, an excavation was conducted in Netivot (map ref. 1607/5925), following the exposure of a cemetery which was damaged during construction work. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiques and Museums, was directed by D. Alon. Many cist graves were discerned in the area, that were smashed and damaged by the bulldozers and tractors. The lids and walls of the graves were shattered or dragged by the vehicles, their contents spilled or plundered. All the graves found were covered with Eocene limestone slabs, one of them also contained marine sandstone slabs. The graves were dated to the Byzantine period.
