Abstract
In January 1958, a salvage excavation was conducted on Giv’at Sokolov (Sokolov Hill) in Benei Beraq, during the renewal of the kurkar mining on the hill (map ref. 18413/66638). The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums and financed by the Benei Beraq Municipality, was directed by V. Sussman and J. Naveh. The western wall of a cave was exposed. The cave ceiling had collapsed. A burnt layer that contained pottery was found on the floor of the cave, which was dated to the Chalcolithic period.
