Abstract
Al-Jazzar Aqueduct and Sulayman Aqueduct were constructed in the Ottoman period to convey water from the springs of Kabri to the city of ‘Akko. Al-Jazzar Aqueduct was built in the second half of the eighteenth century by Jazzar Pasha, which prior to the present excavation was known only from Jacotin’s map and a few historical sources. The Sulayman Aqueduct, also known as the Aqueduct of Arches, was erected between 1812 and 1814 by Sulayman Pasha, and still stands today. The aqueducts extend east of Road 4, within the village of Mazra‘a, crossing Naḥal Bet Ha-‘Emeq and continuing between Kibbutz Loḥame Ha-Geṭa’ot and Kibbutz Shomerat, across Naḥal Yassaf. The excavations enabled the reconstruction of Al-Jazzar Aqueduct’s construction methods and confirmed its course.
