Abstract
The archaeological record pertaining to the Abbasid period in the south of Jerusalem has considerably increased in recent years with archaeological research gradually focusing on this period. The large-scale salvage excavations in the Giv‘ati Parking Lot, south of Ḥaram el-Sharif, exposed extensive Abbasid-period remains that shed new light on the function of this area at the time, filling in the gap left by the paucity of historical sources.
