Abstract
This paper analyzes a single frozen moment in time, on Friday morning, June 26, 1936, as captured in an aerial photograph taken from a British airplane. The paper traces the different elements in the photograph—buildings, streets and monuments—piecing them together with historical and archaeological evidence. This will enable a reconstruction of aspects of everyday life, culture, trade and religion, which altered and nearly ceased to exist almost a decade later.
