Abstract

Between 2015 and 2018, a community project was initiated in the city of Lod, on behalf of the Morning Star Foundation, the Municipality of Lod, the “A New Way” Association and the Educational Center of the Israel Antiquities Authority (Central District). The aim of the project was to bring Lod schoolchildren closer to their multicultural heritage, promoting a dialogue and deepening personal connections between the different populations residing in the city. The program involved pairs of schools, one Jewish and one Arab, that met together several times throughout the school year, taking part in various activities. These meetings also included participation in joint archeological excavations in the area of ancient Lod. The archaeological project served as a meeting point and a basis for getting to know each other, deepening ties, breaking down barriers and working together to uncover the city’s common past, and building bridges for a better future for the diverse communities in the city. Some 900 third- to fifth-grade students from a variety of schools took part in these activities.
