Abstract

Since Kaplan’s pioneer excavations in Lod in the early 1950s, more than nine salvage excavations were undertaken in the area, mainly to the north of Tel Lod. The various excavations at the site revealed a continuous prehistoric occupation, dating from the beginning of the Pottery Neolithic period up to the Early Bronze Age (the ninth to the fourth millennia BP). A significant part of the Neolithic settlement of Lod was revealed in the excavations carried out by Gopher and Rosenberg (1992), Brink (1995), Yannai and Badhi (1996), and the large-scale excavation by Yannai and Marder in the 2000s, identifying the city’s significant material culture.
