Abstract
In January 2010, a trial excavation was conducted within the premises of the Meiri House Museum in the Jewish Quarter of Zefat, in a room that had served as a ritual bath (mikveh) during the Ottoman period and throughout the British Mandate era in the twentieth century (Permit No. A-5827/2010; map. ref. 246292–308/763692–707). The excavation was carried out on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and was funded by the Meiri House Museum. The excavation was directed by Yosef Stepansky, with the assistance of Hagit Tahan-Rosen (pottery drawing), Yosef Yaakobi (administration), Yehudit Meiri and Eyal Meiri (technical assistance and provision of information regarding the site), together with the staff of the Ha-Meiri House Museum. Participating in the excavation were Dr. Yinon Shavtiel and students from Zefat Academic College as part of the course “Zefat Through the Ages”.
